A weekend in the life

34
As you could see from the week in the life blog, things are similar to a week in Greenville, well.... except the different language, healthcare, foods, car insurance system, and how I transport Henry to school... Ha! I guess it's pretty different!

The weekend started with a little shopping trip with my friend Allie before we picked up the children Friday afternoon. You can't really hide bags with presents from them since you are carrying the bags in your arms! So we took Allie's car and put our treasures in her trunk. This is the parking deck where we parked to shop. Parking decks here are really confusing! The car is nearly impossible to find again without a picture and you have to remember to pay as you walk back to your car and have your ticket validated by a machine or you are NOT getting out of the garage! You can't pay at the exit!

After shopping, we went to pick up the children from school and took them to get candy at the cutest place.

We are going to have to make this place a Friday tradition. How about that candy pizza?

We had dinner with the Williams Family at their apartment Friday night- this is their youngest, Christian. He is a total snuggle bug!

Saturday morning taking it easy at home. So nice to just read and hang out.

Meanwhile, Gant was on a mountain bike ride! He saw some beautiful views around Puy- de- Dome, a nearby mountain.

Hen and I took a stroll by the market- does this guy not look like a French farmer from central casting?? Beret and all!

Then off to the post office to pick up packages- they leave you a slip at your apartment and you go there (or a nearby store if they tell you to go there instead) the next day to pick up your package.

You have to have your slip and your passport to get your goodies! Mail and packages here mean THE world to us!

Like I said, really into privacy here!! This is to remind you to STAY BACK!

On our way to get new cleats before soccer

This store, Decathalon, is pretty close to our version of sporting goods stores.

Henry had a soccer game in a nearby farm town- it was really beautiful.

Soccer parents selfie!

They play for 2 hours! It is more of a rotation or a round robin than our traditional games- that is a LONG time to run!

Consession stand- um, no thanks.

I know I have mentioned the public toilets here and that they are ATROCIOUS, but this "locker room" bathroom was the worst I have seen yet.
I would have preferred this public toilet that you have to pay to use!!

This is only a few blocks from our house- lovely huh? See on the side where you pay?!?

Then we needed to go to the grocery store. Saturdays at the grocery here are so packed because they are all closed on Sunday and Mondays until 3- it is like Christmas Eve in there!

However, we did find this new product- it is Belgian and it is basically gingerbread cookie batter. Maybe my favorite thing I have had here yet and that is saying something! No idea if they sell it in the US-here it was next to the Nutella.  I think it is meant to spread on bread , but I thought the spoonful I had was JUST fine on it's own!

A McDonalds sign we spotted outside our house on the bus billboard. DOUBLE SHINY BACON?? Why do they call the sandwiches such different things and who would want it pointed out that the bacon is shiny? It looks like a Double Bacon Burger to me!

Here is the front of the church we are going to- today we sang and old Amy Grant song in French, of course, but it was touching to hear the tune of " Thy Word" this morning.

At lunchtime today the English church hosted a Thanksgiving meal for all of the Americans. It was so nice of them to do so!

Looks pretty legit huh?

Gant went for the turkey leg- all I can think when I see those is DISNEYWORLD! 🍗

We enjoyed hanging out with a whole group of Americans for a little while!

Henry and his buddy Zane having a good time.

Family pic!

Henry's rope burn from a game the boys were playing. He doesn't look too upset about it!

Home and into cozies for watching Alabama Football! Most Sunday afternoons we watch Saturday's game thanks to our Slingbox in Greenville!

We hook it up from our computer and watch what was recorded on Gant's parents' TV to the Sling box. Amazing!

Tonight we are cheering on the Tide, having a light dinner and that wraps up this French weekend!
