Grippe

34

So- we have spent the last 12 days (give or take) battling the "Grippe" (the flu) and it has been one strong virus!! They do not do flu tests here nor do they prescribe Tamiflu. It's just the old fashioned prescription of pain reliever, fluids, and lots and lots of rest. So that is what we did! Henry was the first down and was listless for days.

Gant's 40th birthday was on the 27th and we had planned to go out to dinner to celebrate. Henry wasn't quite able to walk to the kitchen without help at that point, so we had to postpone!  Gant was such a good sport about it, so mature! He reminded me, " well, I am 40 now." He is so funny.
We figured two days was plenty of time for him to get better and we rescheduled our reservation. We were a bit short sighted.
Gant came home from work early feeling terrible. He was down several days himself. I only had a bad headache which might have come from the cabin fever of being inside for 10 days straight!  There are no drive-throughs here to get soup, medicine, smoothies, etc. Its simply archaic!! You have to make it all! Ha!

So now after lots of Ibuprophen, soup, and movies, we are re-entering the land of the living! We are a bit tentative to go back out there.....

Here is a map of France with the flu by numbers- we are in the red in the middle, Clermont- Ferrand.
Henry's homeroom class of 28 had 18 people out last week. There is also a case of Scarlet Fever going around the school. Yikes.

I posted the picture I found of me and Henry (age 2) because it represents how I felt this couple of weeks while taking care of him. He is actually a pretty good patient (unlike me) and while feeling miserable was so sweet. What a privilege to be his mom!

Ps- I know this post is far from an exciting one, but it is all part of it! Living in a foreign country is exciting in many ways. However, when regular things like this occur it can be very unsettling without the comforts or familiarities we all love when we are sick! But just like everything else here, it only makes us closer to band together and figure it out!
( but I sure missed that Walgreens drive through window) :)
