The plat du jour- Gargamelle de Truite (Trout) - I believe Gargamelle is some kind of puff pastry but all I ever think of when I see Gargamelle is the villain in the Smurfs!
We drove to another nearby town called Theirs. They are known for their handmade knives. They have quite the selection!
It is a cute Midieval town and we had a nice stroll.
Henry's first knife- a pocket knife made for children that folds safely?!? We hope so! They even engrave the knives with your name.
Last soccer game of the season. Wow it has been quite a different experience than the Greenville YMCA! But good for Henry to have to conquer a new situation of unfamiliarity and challenges!
The scenery sure is pretty at these soccer games!
On June 1st, there was a breast cancer walk through Clermont Ferrand - look at this sea of pink!
June 4 we had the happy arrival of my dad, stepmom, Cathy, her sister, Barbara, and Henry's cousin Vann.
Their happy reunion! They have always had a special bond and it seems to be no different even while living on different sides of the ocean!
Up to all of their old tricks together!
Cathy and Barbara ready for a morning of shopping! We went to the antique Brocante and the food and vegetable market.
A fun French lunch outside with a nice breeze- perfect!
On our way to a true French meal- 7 courses! It was a meal we will not soon forget. Absolutely delicious!
Vann loved her dessert!
We think Barbara won the dessert contest! It featured cherries - the best fruit here right now and these were especially good!
The next morning we went to Henry's soccer tournament- his last event of the season. He was glad to have some people cheering for him in English!
Another great outdoor lunch with everyone relaxed and enjoying the weather!
Then we took a little train ride to the top of the nearby mountain.
The view never disappoints!
We always love to take people to Puy de Dome if weather permits because you get a real sense of this area with all of its farms and beautiful countryside.
We were sad to see them go- we had such a great time with them. Visitors here just really fill us up with a taste of home and an opportunity to spend such special time together. We are so grateful for all people go through to make it over here. It is no small feat and it means so much! Thank you for coming to see us Dad, Cathy, Barbara, and Vann!
Even though Henry's birthday is in August, here in France people spread far and wide once school ends. So Henry had an early birthday party at a laser tag place! It was so much fun. I even played and earned some bragging rights for beating Gant AND Henry!
What a blessing to end our first school year here with some wonderful friendships for Henry!
And something I have appreciated about France- don't think they are on Pinterest yet! Ha! This is how they do things. Some cupcakes, a small party favor, and done! I think I might need to take a page out of this book- it sure looks to me like the kids are having fun together!! Isn't that what a birthday party is all about?
And lastly, a few things maybe lost in translation? Happy ever and after?
I think this is supposed to be happy hour?
Hmmm? What is Chicken Fun?
And capsules you take to temporarily turn your skin a tan color- anyone see the movie Soul Man? I don't know how that would turn out for someone as pale as I am? Should I try it? Ha!
Miss you all!!
