Scotland

The ferry to Scotland was way better than the one to Ireland- probably because it was only 2 hours and the rocking was very mild! Phew.

We arrived at our little cottage after a long drive! It was a welcome sight and is so cute.

Yew Tree Cottage is SO teeny inside it should be for people under 5 feet! Ha- we have hit our heads a few times on the ceiling! We are in the Scottish Highlands in a very remote little village but it is so beautiful.

Here are some pictures of the scenery we have seen on our drives and walks.

There really are sheep crossing the road all of the time!

Our favorite day in the Highlands was our drive to the Isle of Skye. The clear lakes, mountains and hillsides are so vast and humbling!

There was actually a bagpiper playing in the middle of the capital town of Portree. And a young one- he might have changed my stereotype of a Scottish bagpiper!

Our last day in the Highlands we hiked around a nearby lake.

Then we were back in the car for the drive to Edinburgh for one night. At first glance, it appears very gothic and dark, but the people are very friendly! We had dinner at a Jamie Oliver restaurant that was so delicious and fresh. It was great to have a little city living for a day or so after no cell phone, wifi, or restaurants for miles in the past week in the Highlands. What a great mix of adventures this trip has been!
Here is Jamie's restaurant that we loved!

Here is a picture of our hotel, The George. The doormen are dressed in traditional Scottish garb.

Our last stop was Edinburgh castle. Here are some pics from our morning there...

Here is a view of the city from the castle

And here is Henry in front of the cannons- every single day of the year they fire the "one o'clock gun" over Edinburgh. They would have done 12 noon but it would have used too many bullets back at a time they needed to conserve them!

There were a lot of street performers around - this guy looks like he is suspended in midair!

And our last meal in Edinburgh was at a Mexican restaurant- it tasted so so good!
No Mexican food in France- we have missed it!

Off to England!
