Bordeaux

34

The day after Christmas we left in our rented minibus for the Bordeaux region for a week.

We stopped in the town of Sarlat in the Dordogne Region on the way there.

Gant's favorite European snack- waffles hot off the griddle!

We arrived in the dark to a beautiful house Gant found for us to spread out and relax.

Day 1 - we had a late start but got in a visit the town of Bordeaux

Day 2-  Cap Ferrat and the Dune of Pilat on Arcachon Bay

A delicious seafood lunch near a lighthouse

Then we climbed the largest sand dune in Europe!

Going up....

It was so windy!!!!

And coming down....

It was so worth the trip!

Day 3- a little trip to Saint Emilion, a town known for its wine/ vineyards. It was a beautiful, small town full of wine shops and restaurants.

Such a picturesque place!

We left around sunset - what a fun afternoon. The vineyards were stripped of all of the grapes since they had already been harvested, but rows and rows looked ready to start again for next year. In France, they don't identify wine by the grape the way we do. It is by the region- here is one everyone really liked!

Day 4- we pulled out of the driveway at 7:30 am so we could drive to Spain! Here we are right after arriving in San/ Saint Sebastián- what a gorgeous view!

We walked around for a few hours and saw a few sights

Then after lunch we got back in the car and drove to Biarritz- a little city known for its surf back in France. It was such a cute beach town and there were tons of surfers even on a chilly December day!

Then we went to a recommended tea house and ended up having such a good time there we stayed for dinner!

The Miremont Tea House

Henry tried to drink some tea the formal way!

Day 5- New Year's Eve - back to Bordeaux for a few hours to get groceries and have lunch

We had an excellent meal at this Italian place

How cute are they peeking their heads out of that window?

We couldn't believe how unique the flavors were!!

A few more pictures of Bordeaux.

Day 6- New Year's Day

One last day together- relaxing and enjoying our great house in Bordeaux.

Tennis Round Robin

Gant and Henry doing their annual Polar Plunge!

Teaching Henry how to play Hearts- he was a QUICK study- beating us in no time!

And the Queen!! Vicki found the little favor in their traditional New Year's Day cake - Galette de Roi - looks like it is going to be a lucky year for her!

What a special Christmas vacation with family! We are so grateful they could spend it with us in France! Wonderful memories!
