End of the school year

34
What a strange thing it is to have school last until July 4th in France! I'll never get used to it! But we are having a lot of end of the year fun anyway! One week left!

The Clermontoise 5k with some fun friends!

My Bible Study ladies and a send -off breakfast for our friend, Meredith, heading back to Greenville this summer.

Last soccer tournament until the Fall- with Henry's friend, Elliott.

Playtime at the park getting in some last-minute time with our friend, Yilin, who moves back to China this summer.

Breakfast for some kiddos at a new restaurant that is essentially a cereal bar!

Three cereal choices, three toppings - for breakfast?!? The moms figured maybe once or twice a year was ok ?!?

Starbucks opened in Clermont- Ferrand this week! The only problem is the location! They put it about 20 minutes from downtown (where the bulk of the people always are?- our best guess was the local cafes prevented it) At least I will be able to get a pumpkin spice latte in September!

Our first hot day since last summer - it was 90 degrees- without air conditioning that feels REALLY hot. Henry and I just rode around in the car!

Clermont has a music festival every year and this year there was a band here from Kentucky called Living Hope- sooo cool to hear bluegrass/ gospel in FRANCE!

Henry and his friend, Lucas,  listening to the band

And a marching band going by the restaurant where we had dinner that night. It was really a festive and fun event- ( at least until 9pm for us) apparently it goes on the ENTIRE night and gets very rowdy!

The English speaking church here hosts a Friday lunch each week for the kiddos. Here is their end of the year picnic at the park!

The big event marking the end of the school year is called Kermesse. Each class puts on a song and dance and there are games and a big dinner. It's amazing to think of how far Henry has come with his French since this time last year! Here are some pictures of the day before set- up and of the night.

The moms make all of the food the day before in the school cafeteria- look at all of those fresh herbs and tomatoes - no processed food here!

I was in charge of making drinks?!? What? This teetotaler? Ha! The kids here drink syrup water like it's their job! So we made pitchers full the day before. I was trying to look like Isaac, the bartender on the Love Boat!

And here are some pictures from Kermesse ( which means festival, party)

The group of women I see four times a day at school, who make this experience a whole lot more fun! 6 Americans, 1 Australian, 1 English, 1 French Canadian

Cheese plate with water guns - pretty much sums up the event!

Each class has to perform a dance! Henry was not too thrilled at first, but he really went for it and had fun! This was the beginning hand shake of their Whip and Nae Nae dance!
